Everyone remembers a few film and television characters that were truly iconic. Characters become so iconic thanks in large part to the actors who bring them to life, and it's often difficult to imagine anyone else in the role afterward. Try to picture someone other than Miley Cyrus playing Hannah Montana...it can't be done! Some actors regret turning down a project, but others know that it can be the right choice, no matter how popular or critically adored the film might become. A lot of actors who turn down roles only to see the film they rejected turn into a massive box office hit that came with loads of accolades still understand that it was probably the other actor that helped make the film what it was. You can't just pluck out Lady Gaga from A Star Is Born, throw any other actress in the role, and expect the movie to have the same magic that it did with Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Some of these actors turn down roles because they just have no other choice. Many actresses can't work on certain films because they are pregnant and the film's storyline just wouldn't work with their pregnancy being obvious. Other stars have had to turn down roles because of scheduling issues. But some actors have turned down roles for seemingly innocuous reasons only to feel like they really screwed up later, especially if they chose another film over the other and the one they chose was a total flop!
