From Ben Franklin to Bill Gates, the world is filled with all sorts of geniuses and creative minds who have produced more than a few inventions. Often, inventions like the lightbulb and computer operating system really do improve our lives. We think of these as good inventions. However, for every good invention you can guarantee that there are a bunch of absolutely awful creations. Some of these don’t make it past the prototype stage – thankfully. Every now and then, however, one slips through and unleashes itself upon the unwitting public. More often than not, these bad inventions are merely nuisances or totally pointless. For instance, there are medications that are merely ‘snake oil’ or toys that people spent a lot on and turned out to be pretty bad. Yet, there can be the odd creation that is actually a major health and safety concern. Disturbingly, as you’ll see, some of these terrible and unsafe inventions can stay on the market for years, or even decades, before they are eventually pulled by the authorities.
