Some actors insist that the process of becoming a character, or method acting, can make all the difference when trying to perfect a role. In fact, a lot of method actors have secured Oscars for their performances, like Charlize Theron in "Monster," Anne Hathaway in "Les Miserables," and Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Revenant." Whether they are playing mentally ill characters like Joaquin Phoenix in "Joker" or more carefree characters, like Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," actors sometimes have to take their portrayals of difficult characters home with them. This can mean things like drinking on and off-set, asking to be referred to by character name only, eating raw meat, exposing themselves to harsh conditions and gaining or losing a lot of weight.

While some actors like Shia LaBeouf have a reputation for being hard to work with because of method acting, there are also physical tolls that this type of dedication can take on an actor's health. Actors like Christian Bale in "Ford v Ferrari" and Jennifer Lopez in "Hustlers" have put their bodies through grueling diets and physical training. While others, like Taylor Swift in "Cats," have had to mentally and physically master the art of acting like a whole other species. Even actors who seemingly dislike method acting, like Robert Pattinson, have used method techniques when becoming a character. This list will take you through some of the extremes actors have went to in order to perfectly capture a role. Don't forget to subscribe to The Talko to stay up to date!
