The 2015 Paris Agreement on curbing these emissions has done little to stop these increases, as scientists claim hundreds of cities could be underwater by 2100, affecting nearly 300 million urban dwellers, especially those living in centers on the shorelines of the world's oceans. Despite the pledges of most countries participating in environmental preservation measures, including more than 180 countries at the latest 2019 UN Climate Summit held in Poland, that hasn't been enough to stall a predicted world temperature increase of three degrees Celsius by 2100. That's enough to melt enough ice to raise sea levels by more than six feet.


Other researchers paint an even more pessimistic picture, believing that in roughly 30 years, as we reach the halfway point of the 21st century, many major municipalities will either disappear or become totally uninhabitable, largely due to flooding. That argument is based on other weather-related factors, such as an unprecedented rise in hurricane activity, which has destroyed much civic infrastructure in cities large and small.

However, not all the cities on this list are likely to vanish as a result of Mother Nature's doing. Economic and sociological factors also play a large part in a few municipalities mentioned, proving there's more than just one way to cause a community to disappear.
