Many of the foods that we chow down on every day were invented not for us, but for soldiers. In fact, some of the packaged and processed foods we find in popular supermarkets once started out as food experiments in an army laboratory. These foods often weren't designed to be delicious but were produced for convenience and ease of transporting. Unlike their modern-day counterparts, the focus with these inventions was on the cost and nutritional value rather than how tasty they could actually be. Because life in the military is very different from life in the real world. Food is eaten for energy and meals are quick affairs that were often hindered by rations during the World Wars. These soldiers were forced to take what they could get and pretend to enjoy it, or else they wouldn't have enough energy to fight to the best of their ability. If only the soldiers of the past were around nowadays to taste the updated equivalents of what they used to eat in the military.
