Camouflage may look awesome, but it’s not supposed to. That’s because you’re not supposed to see it. While we're busy noticing the amazing colors and shapes of the different animals around us, most animals don’t have time for that. They’re too busy trying not to get eaten, before doing a little bit of eating themselves. That's why they camouflage themselves. But camo can come in a lot of different flavors, and it’s not just about picking the right color to blend in with a bunch of leaves and rocks. There’s a lot more going on than we think. Whether it’s creating a disruptive pattern to blend in with the trees, or changing the way an animal reflects light to appear less three-dimensional, camouflage can take on a range of forms depending on the environment and the needs of each organism.
