In 2017, the US government announced a travel ban to prevent American citizens from visiting North Korea. While there has always been tensions between the countries, it reached a new low when Otto Warmbier returned to the US in a terrible condition after being detained for nearly eighteen months in North Korea. The student sadly passed away from an unknown illness just a few days after he was released. But Otto wasn't the only foreigner who had a bad experience in North Korea. Over the last 20 years, more than a handful of international citizens have visited the state for a variety of reasons, and many of them have had a negative experience. From being detained under made-up charges to spending their days in hard labor camps, their stories are enough to make us want to stay away from North Korea.
