Tattoos have an important role in Polynesian culture, and it’s unlikely that Maui would have been the only inked person in Moana. Tiger Lily from Peter Pan is a minor but beloved character, but she’s far from a historically accurate one. Many Disney movies are based on fairy tales, but Alice from Alice in Wonderland is based on a real little girl. Elsa is one of our favorite heroines, but she came perilously close to being a totally different villain. Merida was supposed to not look like a standard Disney princess, but she came way too close to getting a glamorous makeover.
