Thanks to pop culture, religion, and limited edition items, the internet has become home to some pretty strange food crazes. From a chip that looks like a certain person’s religious hat to a McDonald’s sauce that has resurrected thanks to the popular TV show, Rick and Morty these are the strange stories behind the world’s most overpriced foods.
2005 was a big year for food with religious symbols on them or associated with them. One Florida woman found a Virgin Mary in her toast and put it up for auction on eBay. How much money did she get? You have to watch the video to see. The Virgin Mary toast wasn’t the only religious memorabilia food item to make some quick cash in 2005. A family in Salem decided to put a Dorito chip up for auction on eBay, claiming it looked like a Pope hat. They didn’t get nearly as much as the Virgin Mary toast, but the family did walk away with some cha-ching.
The latest overpriced food frenzy comes to us thanks to Adult Swim’s hit TV show “Rick and Morty.” The show teased fans with an early release of their 3rd season on April Fool’s Day 2017. The episode featured Rick going off on a rant claiming it was his life mission to find McDonald’s 1998 limited edition Szechuan McNugget sauce. Since then, you won’t believe what people have done to get their hands on a packet of it! Watch the video to see.
