Have you ever watched a Disney scene and got a sense of déjà vu? Well that’s not surprising, as Disney has recycled scenes from loads of movies. Once you’ve seen the sequences side-by-side, you’ll be amazed at just how many times Disney re-used animation across the years.

Originally, animators used a technique called rotoscoping to trace live-action sequences, to help them achieve more realistic movements. This then became a way to save time and money. Although there’s also the argument that it was done to keep audiences happy, using tried and tested sequences. That’s thanks to Wolfgang Reitherman, who directed many of the Disney movies that re-used scenes.

The “Robin Hood” cartoon movie and “Jungle Book” are two of the biggest replicators, with a surprising number of their scenes taken from previous films. When you see Maid Marian the vixen recreating Snow White’s dance moves, you’ll never look at the Disney Princess in the same way again. And Marian also copied “The Aristocats” female feline Duchess’ moves.

But “Jungle Book” also inspired many scenes in later movies too, like “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.” “The Sword in the Stone” also held both positions, of re-using passages and being re-used. Bambi’s mom pops up in a surprising number of films, and its woodland creatures make appearances in “Fox and the Hound” too. Once you see the “Sleeping Beauty” and “Beauty and the Beast” ballroom scenes together, you’ll wonder that you never noticed the overlap before. Scenes from “101 Dalmatians” reappear in more than one movie too.
