Sometimes ignorance can be bliss, but as checking the labels of the products we consume is becoming more commonplace, there is slightly less mystery surrounding their ingredients. However, do we really know what ‘natural flavors’ and ‘by-products’ are? After all, FDA regulations allow for things like rodent hairs, insects parts and other questionable substances to be allowed in our food, in very small quantities of course. The thought can be stomach churning. However, we know those kinds of things are not supposed to be in our food, but what about the things that are? What about those special ingredients that are purposefully included in our package meat or face lotions?

In this video, we will take a look at some of the most surprising things about how everyday products are made. Back in 2012, ‘pink slime’ oozed onto the scene as the grossest thing added to our food, but it is not the only thing we should be scrunching our noses at. All sorts of shocking ingredients are going undercover in our food, cosmetics, clothing and favorite fragrances. For example, quite a few people enjoy the taste of vanilla, but when you realize where the ‘natural flavors’ are derived from, you may want to set your ice cream aside. Or how about those expensive perfumes and colognes that we dab on our necks? Image the shock and maybe even horror some might feel if they knew that some of these scents were created from extracting waste by-products. May we suggest that you do not watch this one while enjoying your lunch break? Just a suggestion.
