The court system is in place to protect people and allow them to settle grievances against one another based on the laws and evidence available. In many countries, this system is used thousands of times a day as individuals and businesses seek damages for a variety of different reasons. Maybe your neighbor damaged your property and refused to pay for it? Perhaps a company made a product that injured several people? Whatever the case, when grievances can’t be settled between the two parties in question they turn to the courts, complete with judges and juries, in order to settle the issue once and for all. For the most part, these types of lawsuits often get overshadowed by the ‘bigger’ stories involving cases of murderers and other serious crimes. That said, there are quite a few interesting non-criminal suits brought forward in the last few years which are pretty bizarre.
How bizarre? Well, if we’re being honest these following lawsuits are just plain ridiculous. In fact, they are so frivolous or litigious that sitcoms and late night comedians have even referenced some. From cases of mistaken identity to lost or damaged personal property to cases which are just clearly the effort of the plaintiff to get a big payday, every one of these lawsuits is so ridiculous it’s hard not to follow them without laughing out loud or just shaking your head in disbelief. In fact, some of these cases have even spurred efforts to reform the legal system in order to stop so many frivolous and clearly stupid lawsuits from taking up the time of the courts.
